Definitions Child Work: Child participation in economic activity that does not negatively affect their health, development or education Child Labour: Children engaged in harmful work and being enslaved, recruited, prostituted, trafficked, forced into illegal activities and exposed to hazardous work. Boycott: To refuse to use or to have anything to do with something

Non Hazardous Work Work which does not put a person at risk e.g.: cleaning, childcare, no machines, no sharp objects Hazardous Work Work which is accompanied by degrees of risk e.g: mining, heavy machinery, dirty environments

Case Studies Read the case studies and answer the following questions in full sentences: 1. Which country is the child from? 2. How old is the child? 3. Why does the child need to work? 3. What type of work is the child undertaking? 4. Why is a child being used for the work? 5. Is the child suffering from their work and how? 6. What future does the child face?

What can be done to reduce the amount of child labour? Boycott companies that use child labour (although children may then lose their jobs) Introduce a fair trade campaign e.g.: Clean Clothes Campaign to regulate their work
