A really brief review because in 8 th grade they drilled this in your heads

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America. Explain what the preamble to the Constitution is saying about the purpose of the document.

 Gives us basic rights as US citizens.  The first 10 amendments of the Constitution.  Many states would not ratify the Constitution without a Bill of Rights included in it.

 Each article of the Constitution sets up the rules/regulations for each section of government (federal, state and local)  Each article also designates what each branch of the government does (Executive, Judicial, Legislative)

 Using your books find the Constitution starting on page 20. ◦ Skim over the articles of the Constitution (not the amendments/rights). ◦ What branch of government do you feel that the founding father’s gave the most responsibility to? (don’t mistake this with “power”)

 Look at the Bill of Rights and amendments (40-51)  Read through each right that you are guaranteed by these amendments.  Decide which one you feel is the most important to you as an American.  Create a drawing, write a poem/song, write a paragraph, create a cartoon, etc. to show why it is important to you and how it effects your life.
