2. The Constitution has 3 parts – The Preamble – The Articles – The Amendments

The Preamble The Introduction – 1 sentence We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

4. Constitution Part 2 The Articles – There are 7 articles Legislative branch Executive Branch Judicial Branch Federalism Amending the Constitution Supremacy Ratification

5. Article 1 Legislative Branch – Makes the laws – The Great Compromise – Congress Made up of two houses – Senate – House of Representatives » 3/5ths Compromise: 3 out of every 5 slaves would be counted in the population

6. Article 2 Executive Branch – President Barack Obama – Vice President Joe Biden – Cabinet A group of advisors

7. Article 3 The Judicial Branch – The Supreme Court 9 Supreme Court judges – Serve for life

8. Article 4 Federalism- the division of power between the state and National (federal) governement

9. Amending the Constitution article 5 Amend=change – The Constitution can be amended, or formally changed – The amendment process allows the Constitution to adapt to modern times – “the living Constituion”

10. Supremacy article 6 The Supreme Law of the Land – The highest law of the land

11. Ratification article 7 Ratify=to approve – 9 out of 13 states had to ratify, or approve, the Constitution before it could go into effect.

12. 3 rd part of the Constitution The Amendments – Amendments 1-10 are known as the Bill Of Rights – There are 27 amendments altogether
