Lab Rules Spring 2016 ECE 445

THIS IS THE ECE445 LAB  This is NOT the ECE110 Lab  This is NOT the ECE210 Lab  This is NOT the ECE343 Lab  This is NOT the ECE385 Lab  This is NOT the ECE453 Lab  This is NOT the ECE469 Lab  This is NOT the Open Lab  This is NOT a Research Lab This goes both ways!

ARE YOU IN OR ARE YOU OUT  Don’t prop the door open  Don’t let random people in

NO FOOD + DRINK

ONE GROUP MEANS…  One bench  One “set” of cables –We have lots of cables that are free to use –Please don’t hoard them!  One computer –Please log out when you’re finished  You ARE NOT ALLOWED to be in the lab alone –Zayn couldn’t do it alone

IT’S GETTING HOT IN HERE  So turn the soldering irons off –Turn them off when you don’t use them –They’re nice irons, they heat up fast  Don’t use on dry surfaces! –Paper towels –Dry sponges –Tabletops –Skin

ECE445 IS NOT A GAME  Don’t know how to use equipment? –Don’t just mash all the buttons  Measurement seems wrong? –Maybe the machine is broken? –DOUBT IT.  Don’t keep trying on a new scope  Check equipment limits –DC levels into RF equipment –Power levels into scope –And more!

HELP ME HELP YOU  We get it, things break  Please report all equipment/cable failures  Breaking something doesn’t mean you fail  Breaking something and not telling us? –That’s how you fail

USE IT OR LOSE IT  Everyone has lab access now –Probably don’t need it  Safety forms due in a month (2/25)  Need to fill out two: –General Safety –Electrical Safety  Automatically lose lab access otherwise

RESPECT THE RESERVATION  Bench reservation tool exists on My.ECE  Reservation trumps active use  Don’t need to reserve the bench to use it
