1 Safety Rules For The Science Lab
Safety rules you need to know in order to stay safe within the Laboratory !

2 Rules For The Lab : ) Eye Safety Fire Safety
Eye Safety Often labs require that you wear safety glasses. The purpose of such glasses is to prevent damage to your vision. If something should get into your eyes, make sure you let your teacher know. The glasses shown here are for impact safety. Safety goggles that are vented should be used when working with chemicals. Electrical Safety Many labs involve the use of electrical devices. When you plug in such electrical equipment, make sure you include the ground plug (round). Hold the plug firmly by the insulating cover when plugging it in or unplugging it. NEVER unplug an electrical device by pulling on its cord! Fire Safety One of the major concerns in the science laboratory is the use of a Bunsen burner or alcohol lamp. Both involve the use of fire and flame. Make sure you use gloves if picking up a warm or hot object. Do not place body parts into a flame. Make sure you know where to turn off the gas. Long hair should be tied back and long sleeve should be rolled up. Glassware Safety Glassware is vital to doing good science. If not handled with care, glassware can cause serious harm. Notify your teacher if you break glassware. Dispose of broken glass in the appropriate container. Chemical Safety Please be careful to keep chemicals off your skin and out of your mouth and eyes. If you get any chemical on your skin or in your eyes, INFORM your teacher.

3 General Guidelines For Safety
Conduct yourself in a responsible manner at all times in the laboratory. Never work alone. No student may work in the laboratory without an instructor present. When first entering a science room, do not touch any equipment, chemicals, or other materials in the laboratory area until you are instructed to do so. Do not eat food, drink beverages, or chew gum in the laboratory. Do not use laboratory glassware as containers for food or beverages Safety goggles and aprons must be worn whenever you work in lab.  Gloves should be worn whenever you use chemicals that cause skin irritations or need to handle hot equipment.  Wear older clothes that cover the maximum amount of skin. Be alert and proceed with caution at all times in the laboratory. Notify the instructor immediately of any unsafe conditions you observe.

4 One Thing You Should Remember
USE COMMON SENSE AT ALL TIMES.  IF IT LOOKS LIKE IT WOULD NOT BE A GOOD IDEA, IT PROBABLY IS NOT!

5 Three Types Of Safety That Should Be Used Frequently !

6 Conclusions Review Fire safety, Chemical safety, and Eye safety are of major importance in the lab. These are the ones that are commonly being abused. There are General Guidelines you must follow in the laboratory or you will really get burned…… The best tool you can use when in the lab is your brain. Common Sense can go along way. If it looks like a bad idea in the lab , it probably is. Rules for the lab must be followed at all time or accidents can happen and some of the worst things in history were done by accident ….. Fire safety, Glassware safety, Chemical safety, Eye safety, and Electrical Safety are the five safety that are constantly stressed within the lab. These safety can prevent accidents in the lab from even starting. Never work alone in the lab. Always have a partner and instructor present. Don’t bring in food or beverages into the lab because they are a burden.
