Early years Louis was born on January 4, He became blind by accident when he was 3. He got a scholarship for the royal institution for blind youths when he was 10. A soldier showed him his invention, a code called “night writing”, which he used to invent Braille by the time he was 15.

Accomplishments His accomplishment is for inventing Braille for letters, math, and music.

Later Years He became a teacher in school where he had been a student. He died on January 6, 1852 of tuberculosis.

Timeline Born January 4, Became blind when 3. Stayed in school until 10, then got scholarship for academy. When 12, a soldier showed him a code he invented. Louis used the code to invent Braille. Wrote the first Braille book in In 1837 he added symbols for math and music. Became a teacher at academy. Died on Jan. 6, 1859.
