2 Louis Braille Became blind in an accident at the age of 4. Invented the Braille system, which allowed blind people to read and write books. Braille system consists of 6 raised bumps that represent different letters

3 Helen Keller Became blind and deaf after an severe illness when she was very young. Unable to communicate with her family. Annie Sullivan came to teach Helen how to communicate in 1887. Graduated from college and wrote several books. Brought awareness for the deal and blind.

4 Wright Brothers Invented the airplane Studied birds to help them design wings for the aircrafts. Orville Wright took the 1 st flight on December 14 th 1903. Changed the way people traveled the world.

5 Amelia Earhart 1 st woman to fly across the Atlantic as a passenger, she was the navigator. 1 st woman to pilot an airplane across the Atlantic Ocean. Met Orville Wright in 1937. Disappeared while attempting to fly around the world in 1937.

6 George Washington Carver Was known as the “Plant Doctor”. Taught farmers to rotate the types of crops they grew each year to enrich their soil. Developed hundreds of ways to use peanuts. Was also an artist.

7 Robert Fulton Robert began to design steamboats in 1802. Invented the steamboat. Changed the way people used transportation. 1 st steamboat traveled down the Hudson River 1807.

8 Milton Hershey Born on September 13, 1857 Was 18 when he opened his own candy shop. In 1900, the Hershey chocolate bar was invented. In 1905, a town was named Hershey in Pennsylvania. Milton gave much of his money to charity.

9 Sam Walton Founded Walmart stores. The first Walmart was opened in Rogers, Arkansas. In 1992, Sam Walton received the Medal of Freedom (a medal from the president to some for their great works. Remembered for bringing low-cost items to millions of people.
