Have you ever been to a carnival?Were people selling anything there? Angie liked the fall. She liked the cool weather. It meant school was starting. Her school always had a fall carnival. Everyone went to the carnival. Angie wanted to make this year’s carnival special. She had an idea. Every year Angie’s Aunt Sarah had a booth at the carnival. Aunt Sarah always sold stuffed animals. She made them herself. Angie wanted to sell something she had made, too.

Aunt Sarah had craft sticks that Angie could use. Angie found all kinds of things to make bookmarks. She had some old buttons, felt, markers, glue and construction paper. Angie got to work right away. She made bookmarks that looked like bunny rabbits, frogs, cats, dogs, footballs, and baseballs. She also made some bookmarks with silly arms, legs, and funny faces. Angie had a shoebox full of bookmarks when she was finished. She thought that would be enough to sell them for one dollar each. What did Angie make and sell?How do you think she felt about the things she made?

Lesson 3 The first day of the carnival was exciting! Angie woke up early so she could help set up the booth at the carnival. Angie placed her bookmarks near the front. Aunt Sarah placed her stuffed animals on a table in the middle of the booth. When they finished setting up the booth, Aunt Sarah showed Angie what one dollar looks like.

Lesson 3 Aunt Sarah showed Angie five types of coins. The little gold coin is a 5 cents. The little silver coin is a 10 cents, the next bigger size is 20 cents, the biggest silver is 50 cents. The biggest gold coin is a dollar. Aunt Sarah told Angie that one dollar can be just one coin, but one dollar can also be two 50 cents, five 20 cents, ten 10 cents. There are many different ways you can have one dollar.

When Angie went home, she still had money left. Angie placed the money in her special savings bank. She would save it to buy a present for her Aunt Sarah.
