Learning With and From Our Community Ascot Vale PS

AVPS Design Team finding…. Traditionally, we have designed schools for students and teachers only. What would a school facility design look like if we had spaces that facilitated personalised teaching and learning and our school included facilities that developed and enabled improved home/school and community partnerships?

Community Partnerships to Deepen Learning Local author/illustrator Film making Artists- HOM sculptures Corandirk House residents Parents as helpers- graphic designer, actors, artists, biologist, horticulturalist, craft, gardeners ?

Community Partnerships to extend services and offer facilities to families Encouraging conversations have taken place with: Community Police Health/ Well being specialists and visitors VU re Social Worker & pre-service placements Local Community Centre re Internet Café at AVPS Out of hours use of facilities for the community (Industrial) Kitchen- parent request Sports oval - neighbours

In a Learning Studio…. Students are active learners Learning Plans are personalised Environment is multi-disciplinary, promotes well being, is beautiful and multi-aged (intergenerational?) ICT enhances learning and connects students ‘beyond the school’ Habits of Mind behaviours and expectations of learners Teachers and non-teachers supporting learning - LS Manager and Community Partnership Broker - Pre-service professionals- teaching, social workers - ICT technician - class teachers - adult helpers/ experts - Buddies (cross-age teaching)

Proposed AVPS Learning Studio (Design reflects recommendations from student, parent and staff forums)
