M. TYNDEL 1 LHCC Interactions May 2003 ATLAS SCT SCT Production Status ‘Snap-shot’ of the status of the SCT production (May 2003) 1. Barrel Modules 2. Barrel Opto-harnesses 3. Barrel support structures & cooling 4. Endcap Modules 5. Endcap Opto-harnesses 6. Endcap support structures & cooling 7. Power & Cables 8. Off-detector readout 9. Assembly & Integration

M. TYNDEL 2 LHCC Interactions May 2003 ATLAS SCT  Modules  Barrel module PRRMay 01  Detector productionMay 03 ( I.e. complete)  Hybrids target end date Aug /2500 (49%)  Baseboards target end date Oct /2530 (59%)  Modules-Japan 356/ 786 (45%)  Modules-UK 79/ 549 (14%)  Modules-US 48/ 483 (10%)  Modules-Scand (qualification soon)16/ 404 (  Total (2112+5%)499/ 2218 (22%)  Modules target end date Apr 04 Barrel Modules

M. TYNDEL 3 LHCC Interactions May 2003 ATLAS SCT Barrel Optoharnesses  Opto-harnesses  Production now underway after slow start-up  Main problem was ESD damage to DORIC ASIC  First 2 harnesses fully evaluated  Schedule can be recovered  B3Jun 03  B6Jul 03  B5Sep 03  B4Oct 03

M. TYNDEL 4 LHCC Interactions May 2003 ATLAS SCT Barrel Structure & Cooling Support structures  All 4 CF cylinders delivered  …but there are ~40000 small parts! Cooling   Design is finalised   Production of cooling circuits underway   On critical path

M. TYNDEL 5 LHCC Interactions May 2003 ATLAS SCT Endcap Modules  Modules  Endcap module PRRAug 02 & Nov 02  Hybrid design was validated as suitable for production  Hybrid production & assembly transferred to industry  Thermal performance validated  Production  Hybrids  Pre-series of 200 in production – some delivered  Full order for 2500 placed  Spines  200 in production by Protvino/MPI  Contract in place for 2500  Module assembly  All 3 clusters have started ‘qualification’ process  1rst modules within specification  Aim is to have all sites qualified in 2 months  Goal is to complete module production in Sep 04  Very ambitious – will require extra resources

M. TYNDEL 6 LHCC Interactions May 2003 ATLAS SCT Endcap Optoharnesses, Structure & Cooling  Opto-harnesses  Simpler as the electronics is incorporated in the hybrid  Production can start as soon as fibre lengths finalised  Cooling  Design is finalised & prototyped  Production of cooling circuits ready to start  Support structures  CF disks & support cylinders ordered  First 4 delivered; complete by Dec 03  Again many small parts  4 first disks & Stub cylinder delivered  Expect delivery of cylinders by Aug 03  Disk PAR MAY 19  Critical issue is to complete disc machining by July

M. TYNDEL 7 LHCC Interactions May 2003 ATLAS SCT SCT Power, Cables, Readout, Assembly & Integration  Power & Cables  System designed & all elements prototyped  FDR/PRR scheduled for May 28  Early production necessary for macro-assembly  Cable tender in June  Readout  System designed & all elements prototyped  FDR/PRR May 13  Early production necessary for macro-assembly  Assembly & Integration  B3 is at RAL to be equipped with services  B3 will go to Oxford to have modules added Jul 03 – Nov 03  SR building at CERN now available  Program of work underway to commission cooling, power & readout
