VALLEY CROSS-PROFILES OF THE RIVER WYE

THE UPPER COURSE

THE MIDDLE COURSE

Ox-Bow Lake The river is flowing from right to left and has blocked off the upstream end of its former course with deposits visible to the right of the centre of the image. The new course crosses the centre of the image and the downstream end of the former course remains connected to the channel. The floodplain of the Wye is clearly visible beyond the A438 road in the foreground. The distinct summit in the background is Twmpa (or Lord Hereford's Knob) and the col to its left is the Gospel Pass.

River Wye access point, Rhayader The shingle bank by the Riverside Walk

THE LOWER COURSE

The mouth of the River Wye The mouth of the river Wye at low tide viewed from the M48 Wye Bridge. The M4 and part of the second river Severn crossing can be seen in the background.

The River Wye, Chepstow Viewed from Chepstow Old Bridge looking down river. The river at this point is the border between England and Wales; England being on the left in this view.
