2. How did we get there?
Let’s rewind for a while…
I was forced into exile in 2009
So I used Facebook as a political tool to reconnect with each one of you…
Around 2,000 people in Cambodia joined my page every day 1,100 people on average in Cambodia joined Facebook every day in 2013 In the first 3 months following the launch of my page Vs. WeAreSocial
This means in the first three months of launch, my page grew nearly X2 faster than the Facebook growth in Cambodia
Your unconditional support reflected by the growing success of my Facebook page gave me the strength to come back
On 19 th of July 2013 I returned home to rescue our nation
Thanks to Facebook, we for ever revolutionized Cambodia’s political game
Facebook played an instrumental role in the 2013 elections outcome, helping CNRP win 45% of the NA seats in spite of massive cheating by an electoral commission controlled by the ruling party CPP Cambodian Election Results from 1998 to 2013 Opposition Party led by Sam Rainsy Ruling party CPP
Without the widespread election frauds, we would have won Human Rights Watch
Our Facebook campaign has ushered in the dawn of a new age of electoral politics
Our campaign has become a global best practice
CNRP’s election campaign has been awarded twice as one of the world’s most effective strategies by the World Advertising Research Centre (WARC) in London “A political tsunami in Cambodia: Using social media to mobilize the youth and change the political game” Most effective social media strategy (April 2014) Most effective strategy in Asia (November 2014)
My Facebook strategist Lorya Tioulong Noseda receiving an award from the World Advertising Research Centre (WARC) in London on 12 April
The 28 th of July 2013 marked a turning point in the history of Cambodia
Together we led a one-year boycott of parliament
