Top 5(most important facts) 1. The Constitution set up three branches to control the power of each branch. With the principal of checks and balances, each branch limits or checks the powers of the other branches.

2. Each branch should have an equal amount of power. 3. The legislative branch– also known as the Congress- can check, or limit the power of both other branches. Congress can check the executive branch by impeaching which means to remove the President. The legislative branch limits the judicial branch because it has to approve judges.

4. The executive branch – led by the President- limits the other two branches. The executive branch can check the legislative branch by declining or veto to a law passed by Congress. The executive branch limits the judicial branch when it appoints, or selects, judges.

5) The three branches limit each other through checks and balances. Each branch has limited power. Checks and balances are important because it stops one branch from getting to much power.
