Oregon Department of Transportation This program works with communities, law enforcement and internal ODOT partners regarding all aspects of transportation safety utilizing the four “E” approach of Education, Enforcement, Engineering and EMS. The main goal is to reduce road fatalities in Region 4. Region 4 Transportation Safety Overview

Oregon Department of Transportation In 2012, 23 of the 40 Region 4 traffic crash fatalities occurred in Crook (1 fatal), Deschutes (18 fatalities) and Jefferson (4 fatalities) counties. Of those 23, 11 were alcohol involved fatalities with Crook having zero, Deschutes had 9 and Jefferson had 3. And 8 of those 23 were speed involved. 1 fatality in Crook County, 5 in Deschutes and 2 in Jefferson.

Oregon Department of Transportation Goals Decrease fatalities in Region 4 from the average of 46 to 36 by Decrease fatalities in Region 4 from the average of 46 to 36 by Decrease serious injuries (injury A) in Region 4 from the average of 152 to 119 by Decrease serious injuries (injury A) in Region 4 from the average of 152 to 119 by 2020.

Oregon Department of Transportation Performance Measures Decrease speed related fatalities and serious injuries (injury A) in Region 4 from the average of 78 to 71 by December 31, Decrease alcohol related fatalities and serious injuries (injury A) in Region 4 from the average of 41 to 38 by December 31, 2015.

Oregon Department of Transportation Strategies Strategies Speed and alcohol grants (federal funding) are offered to local law enforcement agencies which may include overtime enforcement and/or speed radar equipment. Child passenger safety grants are offered to local fire departments for the purpose of putting on child passenger safety check ups and to purchase of car seats for no/low income families. A grant was issued to Oregon State Police for overtime enforcement during spring/summer of 2014 for the purpose of supporting roadway departure crashes with speed, seatbelt and alcohol being the primary cause. The focus will be Hwy #4 (US 97) MP to MP ; Hwy #4 (US 97) MP to MP ; Hwy #15 (OR 126) MP 90.3 to MP 110.3; Hwy #16 (Santiam) MP to MP and Hwy #17 (US 20) MP 0 to MP
