OBJECTIVE: sharing of knowledge and experience through COASTAL WIKI COASTAL WIKI CORE BODY: ON WHICH FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS CAN BE ADDED WITH ENOUGH CONTENT FOR IMMEDIATE USE

EU MARITIME POLICY: ISSUES Strategic importance of maritime sector and coastal zones EU dependency on maritime transport (ships, pipelines) Economy marine-related sectors (shipping, tourism,..) Marine resources, goods and services (materials, energy, food, landscape,..) Competing uses of marine and coastal environment (space, quality) Natural hazards and hazards related to human exploitation (spills, introduction new species,..) Transboundary influences, interdependencies Fragmented regulations (among nations, among sectors)

EU MARITIME POLICY: GOALS Recognition of “Common EU Maritime Space” Coherent, comprehensive marine policy Unambiguous rules for exploitation Public awareness of environmental, economic importance of the marine environment Sharing of knowledge, experience and data for better management and exploitation

ENCORA REACTION TO GREEN PAPER Coordinate and harmonize European efforts in the maritime field through better networking; Bring about a new attitude of open cooperation, mutual coaching and collaborative learning among coastal and marine professionals throughout Europe; Take advantage of the experience of ENCORA in optimizing the effectiveness and sustainability of networking in coastal and marine issues; Provide a framework for sustaining networking services within the European community of coastal and marine professionals, to facilitate sharing of knowledge and experience. Existing networking initiatives should be integrated within this framework and broadened to the entire field of maritime science, policy and practice.
