How do we classify vertebrates? Know that living things are different but have similar characteristics.
Classify: to sort into groups. Students will classify organisms into groups and relate how they determined the groups with how and why scientists use.

Wildlife Biology AG-WL-4

Reflection  What did you learn from yesterday’s activity?

Characteristics

Amphibians   Cannot regulate their body temperatures.   Begin life in water and then move to land as they mature   Three Types: Frogs, Salamanders, and Toads

Wild Birds   Have pneumatic bones (contain air/hollow)   Highly developed sense of vision, lack of smell   Feed on seed, nuts, insects, or small animals

Fish   Found in various climates and water conditions   Breathe through gills   Feed on plankton, insects, small amphibians, birds, or mammals

Reptile   Ectothermic – do not need to maintain a constant body temp   Types: Lizards, snakes, turtles, and alligators   Lay eggs to reproduce

Mammals   Have constant body temps   Females produce milk   Inhabit nearly every climate and can be found on water, land, and underground   Endothermic - warm- blooded

Group Assignment  In your groups from Tuesday, choose 2 species within your group  Research the following:  Food, Water, Cover, & Space requirements  Compare initial response to findings

Review Characterize Amphibians and their habitat Characterize Wild Birds and their habitat Characterize Fish and their habitat Characterize Reptile and their habitat Characterize Mammals and their habitat.
