 Finding Mass, Volume, and Density. Mass  The amount of matter in an object  Measured in grams (g), milligrams (mg) or kilograms (kg)  Stays the same.
Notes on mass, volume & density. Weight Weight: A measure of the force of gravity on an object. Weight: A measure of the force of gravity on an object.
Volume. Volume: is the amount of space an object takes up Metric standard for volume is the liter (L) 1L = 1000ml = 1000 cm.
Density. Different substances have different densities. The density of a material does not depend on the size or amount of the substance you have. Density.

Chapter 1: Matter Section 1: Matter has mass and volume.

Overview Review: Science and technology help advance each other. Big Idea: Matter is made of particles too small to see. Everything that has mass and takes up space is matter. Objective: to learn what matter is, and to know how to measure mass and volume

All objects are made of matter. Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space is matter. All the objects, liquids, gases, and living things in the universe are made of matter.

All objects are made of matter. Energy, Light, and Sound are some non- examples of matter.

Mass is a measure of the amount of matter. Mass is a measure of how much matter an object contains.

Mass is a measure of the amount of matter. Mass is measured by comparing the mass of an object with the mass of known units or standard units of mass. Units of mass are the kilogram and gram.

Mass is a measure of the amount of matter. Weight is the downward pull of gravity on an object. The stronger the pull of gravity, the more weight there is.

Mass is a measure of the amount of matter. Weight is the downward pull of gravity on an object. Weight is measured in Newtons. Mass and weight are closely related, but they are not the same.

Volume is a measure of the space matter occupies. The amount of space matter occupies is Volume. Same Volume, but different mass.

Volume is a measure of the space matter occupies. Units of volume are the cubic centimeter or milliliter. 1 cm 3 = 1 mL The amount of space that matter takes up can be measured in two ways.

Volume is a measure of the space matter occupies. Use a formula to determine the volume of regular objects. Volume= length x width x heightV=lwh

Volume is a measure of the space matter occupies. Use displacement to measure the volume of solids with an irregular shape.

Review A. Matter is what makes up all objects and organisms. B. Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space. C. Light and sound are not matter.

Review

Mass How much matter an object hasmore mass = more matter 5 kilograms of foodsound

Review

Question: Explain how mass and weight are related. Answer: More mass = More weight. Weight changes if gravity changes, while mass stays the same.

Review The amount of space matter takes upcan be solid or liquid Size of a basketballweight of a basketball

Review Question: Describe two different ways to find the volume of an object. Why might you choose to use one method or the other? Answer: Find the volume by formula, or by displacement, Finding volume by displacement will work for objects of any shape.
