Administrative Software Chapter 5 By DeNetra Lewis

What are two questions you should think? Will you know how to use them? Will you know how to apply them to improve the teaching and learning environment in your classroom?

What do Educators Need to Know about Software? How to use software Be able to identify, evaluate, and apply computer software to the direct and indirect tasks associated with teaching and learning. “It is the educator’s expertise in teaching and in learning that ensures that the programs acquired by a school address the specific, targeted competencies that have been articulated through the instructional design process.”

Two Parts Administrative software – software that assists an educator in accomplishing the administrative, professional, and management tasks associated with the profession. Academic software – software that assists both educators and learners in the teaching and learning process itself.

Administrative software Productivity software and classroom management support software These are productivity software and school and/or classroom management support software.

Word Processing Prepare letters, memos, reports, flyers, rubrics, lesson plans, forms, newsletters Prepare transparencies, activity sheets, posters, study guides, essays, group reports; use in class to dynamically illustrate writing and outlining skills. Electric Spreadsheets Prepare budgets, numeric tables and summaries, grade and attendance rosters, compute grades, prepare visual charts of numeric data Provide students with method for tracking and analyzing data and creating charts from it Database Management Systems Organize and tracks student and other professional data; prepare inventories, mailing lists, reports Organize and provide easy access to lists of academic resources; provide support for students tracking data; extract and report targeted summaries Presentation Software Create presentations for workshops, conferences, and meetings. Create class lecture support that features text, audio, and visual elements with special effects; produce transparency masters, create student worksheets to accompany class lecture
