Afterschool Program Resources and Curriculum Planning How to make the most of your resources and time.

Who am I?? My name is Katie Fabert I am the mom of two beautiful babies Rylan 14, and Jacie 10 I married my Jr. High Sweetheart Jason, who is also a retired soldier. I have my Masters Degree in Education and Early Childhood Education, and I am the Director of Give Me A Chances after school program. I am so excited to be here with you today!!!

What will we cover? How to make the most of your time, we are kind of limited on time how do we make the most of that? Where to find the best activities?? How to build on what your kids are already learning in school? What to do now?? How did I train my staff??

How to make the most of your time Is the activity your about to do able to be combined with many skills that will benefit the kids? ie, counting, fine motor, writing, reading, new vocabulary? Add time to your schedule, ie, time for transitions, make your schedule more fluid, be structured but able to bend also.

Notes -

Where are the best activities Pinterest, lots of great activities, and ideas, for science, art, math and book activities that can tie in with all the above. Teacherspayteachers.com this site is amazing and there’s tons of free stuff!! DLTK, and The Mailbox, The Teachers Notebook.

Notes -

How to build on what the kids are learning?? At my program we help with homework, so we see exactly what they are working on. Teacherspayteachers.com also has many common core aligned resources that follow state standards, and can give you a great idea what they are working on, and where they are at. Talk to them about what they want to learn more about, and what they did in school that day.

Notes -

Fun Activities Math, place value and rounding activity Apple science, fine motor and math. What are your thoughts on these activities?

What to do now? I always teach at least one class a day, I for one learn better by example, I try to engage my staff in conversations about how we can scaffold and expand what the kids are learning.
