Parts of an Animal and Plant cell Mrs. Lacks October 14,2008

Found in BOTH Animal and Plant Cells Cell Membrane- controls what substances enter or leave the cell (screen door) Nucleus- control center (brain) – Nuclear mebrane – Nucleolus – Chromosomes – Prokaryotes – No nucleus – Eukaryotes- has a nucleus

Cytoplasm- between cell membrane and nucleus – Contain many cell organelles Mitochondria (power houses)- provides energy Endoplasmic Reticulum- passageways that carry materials Ribosomes- factories that produce protein Golgi Bodies- (mailroom)- receives materials, packages them and ships them off Vacuoles (storage area) Lysosomes- (clean up crew)- breaks down food or old cells to use again

ONLY in PLANTS Cell Wall- protects and supports Chloroplasts- captures energy from sun and produces food – Gives plants their green color

Inside a cell ells/insideacell/ ells/insideacell/

Cell wall=protect/supports Cell membrane=controls what enters Nucleus= mighty brain Mitochondria=power supply E.R.= passageways Ribosomes= factories of protein Golgi bodies= receives and sends Vacuoles= storage area Lysosomes= clean up crew Chloroplasts= makes plants green
