Motor Cortex Motor Skills

Anatomy The motor cortex is located in the frontal lobe in the brain.

Physiology The Motor cortex controls voluntary movement through the body. Scientists believe that the Motor cortex processes motor functions by elimination depending on the situation. The premotor cortex witch is located in the frontal lobe is critical to the sensory guidance of movement and control of proximal and trunk muscles of the body.

Disorders Motor dyspraxia- Is a disorder that impairs motor coordination in daily activities. Motor dyspraxia comes from weak or disorganized connections in the brain.

Statistics/Other Facts By converting brain signals into control commands a number of algorithms have been used to predict continuous movement. Mentally rehearsing spoken instructions can cause the brain to learn new actions. Nc6i.nlm.nih.gov

Interesting Facts Involuntary movements are controlled by the spinal cord. Cm cells control motor neurons allow motor control development.

Summary Conscious movement like walking, running, and things like that all go through the motor cortex. However subconscious movements like pulling away from a hot surface is from the spinal cord.
