WELCOME TO HISTORY!

THINK! First thing’s first, what is History? HISTORY

History is about people in the past – Everything that you have done will forever be part of History. what they thought, what they felt, what they said, and what they did. You are part of History.

History – interesting fact! The word ‘History’ comes from the Ancient Greek word ‘Historia’ which means to investigate. Q: Do you know what the name is for people who investigate the past?

History is everything that has ever happened – HOW ON EARTH CAN THIS ALL BE KEPT IN ORDER?!?

Palaeontologists study the remains of ALL life forms (including DINOSAURS!) Archaeologists study the remains left behind by humans. Prehistory is the period of time before written records, e.g. books.

Prehistory and Archaeology Prehistory is the period of time before written records, e.g. books. THINK: How do you think we can find out about Prehistory? Archaeology is the study of remains left behind by humans; Palaeontologists study the remains of ALL life forms (including DINOSAURS!)

Two armies that fight each other is like one large army that commits suicide Henri Barbusse (1873 – 1935); French soldier in WWI, novelist and pacifist Historical thought for the day!!

There are TWO types of SOURCE that we use to find out about the past. PRIMARY and SECONDARY sources. What could we use to find out about the past?

A PRIMARY source is something that was written, said or made AT THE TIME of the event by someone who HAS EXPERIENCED it. A SECONDARY source is something that has been written, said or made LATER, by someone who has NOT EXPERIENCED the event. E.G. Primary – A soldier’s diary from WWI E.G Secondary – A school textbook about WWI ACTIVITY
