The Trinity and Christian Living Mark Powell Harding School of Theology

The doctrine of the Trinity Key points There is one God, but there is also a real diversity and community within the Godhead. The Son and Holy Spirit are divine in the same sense as the Father. In the incarnation, the Son of God became a human being just like us in Jesus of Nazareth.

The Trinity and Christian living Holiness Love Downward Mobility

Holiness God the Father makes us holy through the Son and by the power of the Holy Spirit. The gift of holiness (Heb. 10:10; 1 Cor. 1:30-31) The call to holiness (Rom. 8:13; 2 Cor. 3:17-18)

The Trinity and Christian living Holiness Love Downward Mobility

Love Love is one of the most overused and least precise words in the English language; we use the same word to describe our relationship with a mind-boggling variety of people and things: “I love my country. I love my wife. I love my friend Dave. I love my dog. I love my new bike. I love my brother. I love God.” Clearly, love means different things in each of these sentences and yet we use the same word to describe each type of relationship.” -- Kyle Fedler

“Four good Darwinian reasons for individuals to be altruistic, generous or ‘moral’ toward each other.” Kinship Reciprocity Reputation Advertisement of dominance or superiority Good Samaritan urges, urge to adopt a child are: “…misfirings, Darwinian mistakes: blessed, precious, mistakes.”

Love Love is grounded in the nature and work of God. (1 John 4:7-8) Love is exemplified in the incarnation and crucifixion of the Son of God. (1 John 4:9-12) We need the Holy Spirit to grow in love and live out the radical demands of the gospel. (Rom. 5:5; Gal. 5:22-23; 1 Thess. 3:12-13)

The Trinity and Christian living Holiness Love Downward Mobility

The incarnation and the downward way (Phil. 2:3- 11; 2 Cor. 8:9) The virtue of humility Help along the downward way (Phil. 2:12-13; Col. 1:9-10)

The Trinity and Why it Matters Beyond analogies—the Trinity and worship, mission, and daily living. Embracing mystery and wonder
