FaithBelieve What does it mean to believe?

Faith Why is it important? –John 3:16, 18, 36 What does it mean to believe or have faith? –Acknowledge something as true? Is it possible the pope believes he will not be shot? What is missing from his “faith”? –Trust something as true? Faith=belief and trust (Jam 2:19) C.S. Lewis: “To trust Him means, of course, trying to do all that He says. There would be no sense in saying you trusted a person if you would not take his advice. Thus if you have really handed yourself over to Him, it must follow that you are trying to obey Him” (Mere Christianity 147-48) What must we believe to be saved?

GOSPEL Acrostic: G God loves you (John 3:16a) –God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is the only God –God created you and all that is good and loves you O Only Perfect Son (John 3:16a) –God the Father sent His one and only Son Jesus Christ to save the world S Sin of us all (Rom 3:23) –The reason Jesus Christ was sent was because everyone has sinned and rebelled against God’s law (Ex 20) P Precious Blood (Rom 6:23; Heb 9:22; John 3:16) –The punishment for sin is physical death on earth and spiritual death in hell –But Jesus Christ was sent to save us from our sin and punishment by dying on the cross in our place E Eternal Living Savior (1Cor 15:3-4; John 3:16) –And Jesus Christ rose from the dead to prove that He was God, our Savior, and can give us eternal life with God in Heaven L Let Him in (John 3:16) –God calls us to believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who died on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead to give us eternal life –He is the only way to be saved and go to Heaven (John 14:6)

Repentance What is repentance? –Part of faith (Mark 1:15) Repentance is not an addition to saving faith by grace (Eph 2:8-9) Repentance describes a vital part of faith Repentance describes a turning from one thing to another, more specifically, a turning back to the Lord –Part of everyday life Repentance is not a “one-time” thing Repentance is a continual part of daily faith that seeks to deny sin and serve the Lord You need to learn how to say 3 words, 3 words which will develop and maintain right relationships in your life, “I was wrong”
