6. Walk in The Gospel Romans 5:6-11; Mark 1:1-8 p. 1041, 922

Seeing  A primary sense for human beings.  Many things affect how well we see.  The Gospel is first and foremost about God.  Acting to restore his world & rescue his special creature.

1. God is Continually Working  Both passages – suggest an ongoing story.  Mark: Goes back to Isaiah (720 BC) & Malachi (450 BC)  Paul: looks at the present and the future.  Jesus: “My Father is always at his work” (John 5:17)  The big story of the Gospel – starts at creation.  History is a story of God’s deliverance.

1. God is Continually Working  A messy, complicated story.  Walking in the gospel – not a chore, an adventure  Has times that are hard & times that are boring.  About God’s work and action  Walking where God is  Noticing, participating in, embracing what He is doing.

2. God’s Purpose is Rescue  Even Pagan gods were doing things in the world.  For their own benefit – not for us.  The Gospel is very different (Rom 5:8)  The real God rescues us when we were undeserving  More... We are his children & heirs (Luke 15:20; Rom 8:16)  And... Jesus came to give the Holy Spirit (Mark 1:8)  Jesus restores who we were meant to be (1 Pe 1:18)

Living It  Walking with God – mix of internal & external factors  KEY: God is with us, working out his purpose  He is at work restoring, renewing & rescuing  The Holy Spirit brings forth fruit in our lives (Gal. 5:22-23)  Gives us power - to know the love of God, - to overcome sin, - to overcome sin, - to participate in what God is doing. - to participate in what God is doing.
