The Board Policy and Administrative Regulations Terms Board Policy (BP)- Written policies governing independent study that must be implemented pursuant to rules and regulations adopted by the Superintendent of Public Instruction. Administrative Rules & Regulations (AR’s/ ARR’s)-Administrative regulations are detailed directions developed by the superintendent or designee to put policy into practice. They tell how, by whom, where and when things are to be done.

Independent Study-Independent study is an alternative instructional strategy, but it is not an alternative curriculum. Independent study students work independently, according to a written agreement and under the general supervision of a credentialed teacher or teachers. Independent study offers flexibility to meet individual student needs, interests, and learning styles. Independent Study Program-A separate program of a specific school using independent study as a learning strategy.

Independent Study School-A separate alternative school of choice using independent study as the learning strategy. Short Term IS- The phrase "short-term independent study" refers to independent study provided to a classroom-based student who needs to be away from school and on independent study for a short period of time (usually a matter of days or weeks) but who will return to the classroom.

Independent Study Agreement (ISA/IA/Master Agreement)- Similar to a curriculum plan with required elements that outline how, when, where, etc.. the student will complete assignments, interact with teacher, etc… Subsidiary/Supplemental Agreement- Any required elements not in the written agreement should be in one or more documents that are referenced in the written agreement as “subsidiary agreements” and become part of the agreement. Online Vendor Teacher-A teacher provided by an online program to support a student enrolled in a course.

Apportionment- ADA generated from completed assignments as determined by the supervising teacher. ADA- (Average Daily Attendance )- Determines revenue for most districts. Attendance Credit-Attendance credit generates funding for the district and is based on the teacher’s determination of the time value of a student’s work. A student receives full attendance credit as long as he or she completes the time value of a minimum day.

Academic Credit- Academic grades or units for a specific course. Work Product/Work Sample-Results from a student’s efforts and actions to complete or perform the assignment given and which is evaluated by a certificated teacher for ADA. eaap-Education Audit Appeals Panel-Adopts as regulations the audit guide used in annual audits.
