Authorization and Inspection of Cyclotron Facilities The Authorization Process

Authorization and Inspection of Cyclotron Facilities Establishes which are the regulated activities. Establishes the Regulatory Body. Defines the powers and limits of the Regulatory Body.

Authorization and Inspection of Cyclotron Facilities Conditions Regulations License Are used to better define the authorization given by the Regulatory Body. Contain detailed requirements for licensed activities, technical data and limits,based on national and international standards as well as good safety practices. establishes additional requirements, specific to the regulated activity.

Authorization and Inspection of Cyclotron Facilities Prohibits the operation of a cyclotron facility except in accordance with the license.

Authorization and Inspection of Cyclotron Facilities O nly a qualified person receives the license for the activity; T he duties and responsibilities of licensees, employers and workers are properly defined; i nstitutes the regulatory supervision to verify compliance with the laws and established standards. T he offenses and penalties under the legislation are well defined.

Authorization and Inspection of Cyclotron Facilities The licensee must: Ensure that there is a sufficient number of qualified professionals to perform the licensed activity; The license applicant must demonstrate that there is a Radiation Protection Officer and the operation and maintenance of the cyclotron will be made only by qualified personnel. Protect the environment (control system of discharges) and the health and safety of workers. Provide appropriated safety equipment for workers (personal protection, radiation instruments, etc.) Provide appropriate levels of physical security of the cyclotron facility.

Authorization and Inspection of Cyclotron Facilities Licensees are required to report periodically about various aspects of the authorized activity.  Inspections Inspections verify compliance with the law, through visits of inspectors, of the authorized practice. 

Authorization and Inspection of Cyclotron Facilities Regulatory Body request: The licensee must act to correct the safety related deficiency; Suspension of licenses: The Regulatory Body may suspend certain activities or revoke the license in accordance with the law. Persecution: in the case of offenses that lead to serious injury or environmental consequences.

Authorization and Inspection of Cyclotron Facilities The purpose of the inspections is to verify if the authorized practice is conducted in compliance with the Act, the regulations and license conditions. Some license conditions refer to the regulations and national and international standards. Consequently, compliance with these rules can also be enforced.
