Students will conduct research projects based around the sun, moon, shadows and day/night. The students will have opportunities to conduct research in a variety of different formats including online and book research. The students will produce a large class frayer to display their finding and help other classes in completing their frayers.

How is the Sun like a light bulb? How does the Moon change? How do I choose online sources that are good to use in research? Should I use non-fiction or fictional books for research?

Targeted Standards The students will understand: There are different features that can be found in the day and night sky. The Sun is a star in the sky that provides heat and light for the Earth. The Sun and Moon appear to rise and set because the Earth rotates. The Moon does not make its own light. As the Moon moves around the Earth, it appears to change shape. The students will be able to: Compare day and night sky features. Infer from a picture or drawing the time of day based on the location of the Sun or the Moon in the sky. Sequence the pattern of the Moon’s appearance. Identify unit vocabulary
