4 Assessing in different ways Assessment should not only be used at end of a project / task (Summative) Assessment should be ongoing and should take place throughout learning process (Formative) Assessment should drive PBL

5 Summative Assessment Tests Completed tasks or projects done after the fact Gives feedback on how well they have done Analysis of results can be used to identify areas for improvement

6 Formative Assessment Ongoing throughout task / project Provides constant feedback needed to improve learning Strategies for gauging learner needs Strategies to encourage self-direction Strategies to monitor progress Strategies to check understanding

8 Is Formative Assessment enough? Does not on its own improve learning Will only allow learners to grow if used constructively Will allow educators to meet individual needs through differentiated instruction Will allow learners to become more self- directed
