What is density and how is it measured?
Volume (square objects, like a box) Volume is the: amount of space something takes up. FACTS ABOUT VOLUME MEASURMENTS: Volume is found by multiplying three.
Density All substances have different densities, therefore, you can identify a substance if you know its density The formula to calculate something’s density.

Density

Density Definitions: Mass per unit volume How much matter is in a given space. D = m/v Mass – the amount of matter Volume – how much space.

Mass vs. Weight If you go to the moon, what happens to mass and weight? Stays the same. Mass is a measure of the amount of matter. Changes Weight is measure of gravitational pull.

Which Sample Below is more dense?

Which liquid is most dense? Which liquid is least dense?

To Find Density: Measure the mass (in grams) using a triple beam balance. - If your sample is in a container, remember to subtract out the container’s mass. 2) Measure the volume (in milliliters for liquids and cubic centimeters for solids). length x width x height for rectangles For irregular shaped objects, measure the amount of water it displaces in a graduated cylinder. 3) Divide the mass by the volume.
