European Scanning System: status report

DRY Fill factor 92.4 ± 1.6 % DB-driven Scan-back and Total Scan in Bari OIL Fill factor 93.1 ± 1.2 % Brick #8, CERN, Nov PS T7 beam :  GeV/c spread over  9×9 cm 2 Cosmic rays: 6 hours (  1 track/mm 2 / ≤400mrad)

10GeV pion vertex brick with ~1000 pions (CERN, Nov. 04) Predictions are made to pl.56 in 4x4cm zone 294 tracks : 2 times scan-forth is performed with acceptance 70 microns and 40 mrad 2 consecutive holes are allowed ~ 70 stopping points found ~ 60 selected between plates 2 and 56 for vertex confirmation by Fedra Volume 5x5mm, 5 plates up and 4 down the stop Scan-forth and vertex location with dry objective and DB-driven SySal in Bern

DB-driven scanning in Bologna Brick #7 exposed at Cern Nov 2004 (~ GeV) Cosmic rays: 6 hours SB with 2 different oil microscopes: one in a “standard” configuration (MIC2), one with fine-tuned scanning parameters (MIC3), same performances Total-Scan around stopping points of MIC3 to validate SB results 5 plates upstream and 3 plates downstream, 5 x 5 mm 2 scanning area around each stop FEDRA vertex reconstruction algorithm applied reading base-tracks from DB General scan of 4x4 cm 2 on 10 consecutive plates. 325 volume-tracks with npl = 10 and θ < 400 rad as a trigger (starting from plate #1)

Status of the activities in Padova The Scanning station is now being set-up All the microscope components have arrived in PD. A proper location has been the LNL (Legnaro National Laboratories, just outside of Padova) inside the “Sala delle Alte Energie” building. ● The ODYSSEY+FLEX boards & relative software have been installed and first basic functionality checks performed; SySal & Oracle DB have also been installed
