INTEGRATED PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT French 1

WHAT IS AN IPA? An IPA is an assessment that is designed to evaluate your PROFICIENCY in the French language.

HERE IS YOUR FIRST IPA (SEPTEMBER 14, 15, 16) Context for the Integrated Performance Assessment (IPA) You’re applying for a pen pal on-line and read descriptions of target language students in order to find a match. Interpretive Task: First, read target language individuals’ descriptions of themselves and complete comprehension questions. Interpersonal Task: Based on what you read, talk with a classmate about pen pals that interest you and find out about the pen pals that interest your classmate. Presentational Task: Write your first to the pen pal that you selected. Introduce yourself and your classmate.

HOW IS AN IPA ORGANIZED? Context: A scenario to which all the tasks correspond 3 INTERDEPENDANT tasks  1 task in each mode of communication: interpretive, interpersonal, presentational  Each tasks takes approximately 1 whole class period to complete

MODES OF COMMUNICATION Interpretive  Reading/listening and answering questions Interpersonal  Conversation with another student in the class (no help provided by teacher!)\  Randomly paired up- this is a spontaneous conversation Presentational  A PREPARED sample of writing or speech

HOW WILL I BE GRADED? Interpretive task: discrete point Interpersonal task: district rubric Presentational task: district rubric ***IPAs will most likely be worth 2 test grades. Waiting on final approval.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO PREPARE FOR AN IPA? The goal of any IPA is SUCCESSFUL COMMUNICATION IN THE TARGET LANGUAGE! 1. Participate in all in class activities  I design my lessons/activities to lead to success on our IPAs, but your participation is required 2. Study/memorize structures that you know you will need! 3. Prepare well for your presentational task- These are not on the spot! You can ensure your success! 4. See me for help before the IPA if there are concepts you are struggling with The best part about an IPA is that you have a copy of the test beforehand! No surprises!

IPA POLICIES: Everyone will complete the task during the class period that it is scheduled. Speaking presentation policy: While I sympathize that some students do not like to speak aloud or in front of a group, it is an absolutely necessary part of a world language class, not to mention a part of life. No exceptions will be made unless I have a written accommodation for you. Interpersonal conversation policy: If you feel as though your partner held you back from performing as well as you could have during an interpersonal assessment, then I will be happy to give you a second chance with another partner of my choice. Take advantage of the normal retake policy if you are unhappy with how you originally perform.
