Simple Sentences English III practice

Simple Sentences  SIMPLE SENTENCES have only one IC (Independent Clause) and express only one main idea.  I love kumquats.  Maria loves limes.  Maria served punch.

Simple Sentences  SIMPLE SENTENCES can contain a compound elements but will still be just one IC (Independent Clause).  (SS V) Marshall and Allie play basketball.  (S VV) The players dribbled and shot the basketball.  (S V) The team won the game and the tournament.  (S V) They felt happy and elated.  (S V) The team ate at Dairy Queen and McDonalds.

Fragments  FRAGMENTS have only a DC (Dependent Clause) or a P (Phrase) and don’t express a complete thought.  Played football.  A small dog.  Playing at the park.

Practice  DIRECTIONS: Identify each group of words as either a SENTENCE or a FRAGMENT.  He is happy the year is beginning.  My friend jumps for joy.  Showed the animal.  Touch the base.  I played hockey yesterday.  The first day of the week.  I love to swim.
