How I Manage This Course…

Things you should know:  I stick to the course schedule.  Not a fan of late work.  Due on day X mean due anytime that day.  I believe in experiential learning.  Introduce  Learn  Apply  Full disclosure of course materials.  I believe in grading transparency.

Weekly Course Flow: WhenWhat You’ll Be doing Before Class Monday Review the unit materials on blackboard. Study Key terms for the in class quiz. Prepare your in class questions for me. In Class Monday Take weekly quiz in class. Lecture, discussion, demo, and Q&A for week’s topic. Before Class Wednesday Review lab materials. Watch the recorded lecture (if you need to). In Lab Wednesday Work on the class lab for the week’s topic. If not finished in class, it must be completed by the following Monday.

You will have to submit work weekly

How You’re Evaluated:

Accessing our course materials  All required readings and materials are there (except textbooks)  Everything you turn in to me is through blackboard.  Your grades posted there.  Quick Tour…

Required Textbook #1  Databases Demystified, Andrew Oppel, Osborne McGraw Hill, © ISBN (13): List: $21.95  The book serves as a complement to the course materials and will help you grasp the concepts we cover in class. It is a refreshingly easy read, and allows you to learn at your own pace.

Required Textbook #2  Murach’s SQL Server 2008 for developers, Byran Syverson & Joel Murach, Murach & Associates © ISBN (13): List: $52.50  The book serves as a comprehensive reference for SQL components in the course. You will find this book a valuable “cook-book” reference for SQL and query writing.

More Required Stuff:  Instructor’s notes  My prep notes for lectures  Videos  Some I made  Some I Found  Course Casts  Recordings of our Class Lectures
