Did you have fun visiting your parents in St. Augustine? I’ve heard that St. Augustine is a beautiful historic city by the beach. I’m enjoying my second week in North Carolina visiting my brother. He and his family just moved to a house in the mountains. Yesterday we went hiking to the top of Pilot Mountain, and tomorrow we are planning to go canoeing on the river. It’s a lot cooler here than back home in Georgia. I’m looking forward to seeing you soon. I have so much to tell you! Your friend, Susan

There are five parts of a friendly letter. closing signature greeting body heading

1234 Ridge Lane Atlanta, Georgia July 16, 2010 heading or July 16, 2010 The first part of a friendly letter is called the heading. The heading includes the writer’s address and the date. Sometimes only the date is included. The heading is written in the upper right-hand corner of the page.

The body of the letter is in paragraph form. The first line of each paragraph is indented. How has your summer been? Not too hot I hope. Did you have fun visiting your parents in St. Augustine? The signature is your name written directly under the closing.
