3 The Heading The heading can include your address and the date. In casual, friendly letters your address is not necessary. September 12, 2013 Heading

4 The Salutation (greeting) Dear_________. The blank is for the name of the person you are writing. After you write the person's name you put a comma (, ). September 12, 2013 Greeting Dear Hero,

5 The Body The body of the letter is the information you are writing in your letter. September 13, 2013 Body Dear Hero, I am so proud of you and want to thank you for your great service to our nation and to the world. I think of you daily in my prayers and hope that your work will be complete soon, so that you might return to be with those you love. I want you to feel the support and encouragement from our great nation. I hope you find/ feel it as I reach out today. Thank you for your effort and dedication. You are missed, remembered, and honored at home.

6 The Closing The Closing: In the closing the first word is capitalized and you put a comma after the last word.
