September 17 Wednesday’s Lesson Continued

“Wait, wait! Ya gotta hear this!”

 Homework Collection: Please pass forward your “I am from…” poem.  Verify that your name AND hour are on the front.

The 6-Word Narrative

Brainstorm a definition of these terms with a partner- no electronics! PERSONAL NARRATIVE Whole group chat:

…that Ernest Hemingway was challenged to write either a story with less than 10 words or… …a story with 6 words His reply: “For Sale: Baby shoes, never worn.” Although it can’t be proven, the idea is so well liked that many continue to “accept the challenge” and write their own “6-word story” about themselves.

Example 6-Word Narrative Exemplar

Example’s of a graduating class’s 6-word memoirs:

Due tomorrow at 3:05

Instructions from Wednesday’s Class:

1.Choose a piece of tag board 2.Turn it over and put the following in the UPPER RIGHT CORNER: First and Last Name Hour

Listening to the Inner You 1.Look through magazines and find pictures you are drawn to 2.Don’t question it – if you seem interested by the picture, cut it out 3.This is a “gut instinct” attraction – don’t think about it!

Now for the really fun part  Begin placing the cut-out pictures on your canvas  Tape /glue them into place  Fill as much of the canvas with pictures as possible –no empty spaces!!  Have an empty space? Try another run at the magazines

Post-Reflection: On the backside of your poster! As you look at your collage, notice the types of images you selected, the colors, and how you arranged them. 1)At first glance, what do you think the board says about you? 2) Consider: WHY did you choose those pics and place them where you did? 3)Were you surprised by anything? Any connections / patterns / feelings / thoughts you see that you weren’t aware of before? 4)What is one thing you believe others will learn about you from this story board?

Assignment in class tomorrow:

Assignment: Who: You! What: Will create your own PowerPoint slide with your own 6-word narrative Must contain the following: 1. Background picture 2. Your name and hour in the upper right corner 3. 6 words 4. *Should tell us something significant about you Where: Meet me in the open library computer area tomorrow When: the entire hour tomorrow When it’s due: ed to me by the end of class on Monday
