This can be a photograph or image from online or an original drawing. Requirements: No less than 6 words, no more than 20 Words are precise, well-chosen, descriptive Must have a picture to accompany the story May complete digitally, but must come with printed copy to be posted in the room You MUST be able to explain how your story and image reveal something about YOU.

9 Some tips... Free write about a personal story you are willing to share. Don’t worry about word count, spelling, grammar. Cut the fat. Omit lots of words, change words for better ones, arrange words to reveal something in a unique way. Example: You free write about how you tried really hard over summer to put your devices away and check social media much less. You were successful and really learned more about yourself from the experiment. After cutting the fat, you have this: Logged out. Pulled plug. Found life. Source:

10 Free Write- 15 minutes You will now FREE WRITE for 15 minutes. The idea here is to write whatever comes into your mind without pause. Even if it seems silly or nonsense, write it! Your pencil should NOT stop writing and your goal is to brainstorm a story that can tell us something about YOU in some way: an event that happened to you, a common thing you face in your life, something about your background, your hopes and dreams...there is no right answer! Practice STREAM OF CONSCIOUSNESS and don’t worry about spelling or grammar.

11 NOW...cut the fat. Take a colored pen or pencil.
As you read your free write to yourself, cross out unneeded words. Circle words you can replace with better ones. Underline words you believe are powerful and can use. Rewrite the powerful, emotional words out. Cut the fat again. Arrange in a unique way to reveal a story.
