{ Feasibility of Administering Hand Sanitizer Dispensers On Campus: A Feasibility Report English 212: Technical Writing Do Shin Kim

Introduction Introduction Criteria Criteria Methods Methods Research Results Research Results Conclusions Conclusions Recommendations Recommendations Overview

 Examined the feasibility of administering hand sanitizer stands around the UAA campus  Explored the interest students had on administering hand sanitizers  Researched the effectiveness of hand sanitizers to the spread of illnesses  Researched whether other facilities have had success with containing the spread of illnesses with the use of hand sanitizers  Did basic research on how much setting up hand sanitizer stands would cost Introduction

Is hand sanitizer effective in killing germs? Is hand sanitizer effective in killing germs? Has it been proven to reduce the spread of illnesses? Has it been proven to reduce the spread of illnesses? Would students use the hand sanitizers if they were made available? Would students use the hand sanitizers if they were made available? Has studies conducted shown that hand sanitizers bring a benefit to those who use them and to the people around them? Has studies conducted shown that hand sanitizers bring a benefit to those who use them and to the people around them? Are hand sanitizers a viable substitute for hand washing with soap and water? Are hand sanitizers a viable substitute for hand washing with soap and water? Criteria for feasibility

 Researched the effectiveness of hand sanitizers against the spread of illnesses  Researched whether other institutions utilized hand sanitizers more when they were made more readily available for use  Distributed questionnaires to UAA students and got 19 completed surveys  Researched the minimal amount of budget information on hand sanitizers that were available  Researched results on whether the rate of illnesses people contracted decreased after the establishment of hand sanitizers in the facilities Methods

 Student’s and faculty find most of the time that the conventional soap and water for hand washing takes too long and thus, don’t wash at all  Hand sanitizer has been found to be a good substitute that kills germs and bacteria and reduces the spread of illnesses  Hand sanitizer is relatively cheap and would be cheaper to buy in bulks  Studies have found that a majority said that they would use hand sanitizer gels if they were provided  59% of individuals found that they avoided contracting a gastrointestinal disease from others when they frequently used hand sanitizers Why Hand Sanitizer Would Be Beneficial

 Many students have a habit of not washing their hands after using the restroom  Secondary illnesses that are spread from one student to another are the cause for a majority of absenteeism  There are not any establishments of hand sanitizers made readily available to students in the UAA campus  Hand sanitizer is a vital substitute for hand washing with soap and water for those who may need to but don’t have the resources on hand to sanitize right away Why There Is a Need For Hand Sanitizers

Do you think having hand-sanitizing stations set up in buildings around campus would create a more sanitized environment? Primary Research

Do you think you would regularly use hand-sanitizing stations if they were made more available to you? Primary Research

How familiar are you with the benefits of using hand sanitizer? Primary Research

 If the school were to establish hand sanitizer stands, it would greatly reduce (59%) the spread of illness amongst students and faculty  Students would utilize hand sanitizers if they were made available to them  Students believe that hand sanitizers would create an overall more sterile environment if they were regularly used Conclusions

 More research overall  More information on budget to facilitate the feasible idea  More research on the effectiveness hand sanitizers have with killing germs and bacteria  More controlled experiments on how much hand sanitizers reduce the spread of illnesses in environments with lots of people  More research should be conducted on what type of hand sanitizer (gel, foam) is more effective  It is general knowledge that hand sanitizers are sold at a very affordable price, so the school should fund it and go with the plan to establish hand sanitizer stands around campus Recommendations
