1 Analysis n.º 4 Innovative SME’s products and services in Natural areas – good practice guide

2 The enterprises approached by ADRAT in this analysis are all located inside or near by the following natural areas:  National Park Peneda-Gerês  Natural Park  Ecological Reserve  Natura 2000 Network All business are located in rural areas and interact directly with nature and biodiversity. Alto Tâmega’s Region Introduction

3 Themes In this analysis and regarding the Alto Tâmega’s region ADRAT contacted 14 organizations. Tourism Activity: 4 Built Heritage: 3 SME Development: 5 Natural Environment: 2

4 General information From those enterprises that we received more detailed questionnaires we can say that:  All enterprises were constituted after the year 2000  The number of visitors/clients vary from to  At least half of these business received support from European or national funds  Their turnover / year it is around €

5 Tourism Activity In the Tourism Activity theme 4 enterprises participate in the anlysis:  Rotas da Terra  NaturBarroso  Pena Aventura  Javsport All these enterprises have tourism activities that can go from the adventure sport (mountain bike, rappel…) to birdwatching, pedestrian, gastronomy and patrimony tours.

6 Built Heritage In the Built Heritage theme 3 enterprises participated in the analysis:  Os Olmos Restaurant  Ecomuseum of Barroso  Casa dos Bragança The enterprises mentioned above have totally different activities but all, one way or the other, are related to the built heritage (reconstruction of old houses, cultural heritage and handcraft).

7 SME Development In the SME Development theme 5 enterprises participated in the analysis:  Barros Fortunas  Estalagem de Montalegre  Mimoarte  Arte da Terra  Rede de Tabernas These enterprises have different activities since organic honey production to handcraft and design. Some are located in villages within the National Park Peneda- Gerês

8 Natural Environment In the Natural Environment we have 2 enterprises participate:  ADERE (the heatlands conservation)  Associação de Cão de Gado ADERE is a development enterprise operating in the National Park Peneda-Gerês. They developed a project about the “Heathlands conservation and the sustainable development of Mourela Plateau ”. The purpose of this project was the recovery of the traditional cattle and heathland management in the Park.
