Future of Numbering WG Mission To explore changes to the environment, including new and future technologies, the impact of market place and/or regulatory changes and innovations on telephone numbering. Scope: The Working Group will investigate new telephone numbering assignment approaches and future telephone number assignment requirements. The Working Group will identify common criteria and gather data to identify trends and their impact upon numbering resources. The Working Group, if necessary, will analyze opportunities to determine the feasibility and benefit of each and report its findings to the NANC. The Working Group will also analyze various topics that may be given to it from time to time by the NANC and/or FCC. 2

Future of Numbering WG Status: Subcommittee Updates –FTN 4: Geographic Issues The sub-committee created a white paper (Geographic Routing of Toll Free Services) which was shared with the NANC members in December Cover letter submitted to the NANC at the June 4, 2015 meeting, The NANC agreed upon wording of the cover letter and forwarded the cover letter and the white paper to the FCC in July. Item remains open until the next FoN Meeting scheduled for October 7. –FTN 8: All IP Addressing All IP Addressing sub-committee was created to define future identifiers in support of IP industry trends beyond the e.164 numbering plan (including M2M impacts). The subcommittee recommended it is not necessary to reconsider E.164 numbering policy until NANP exhaust is forecasted by the NANPA to occur within approximately 15 years. According to the recommendation, the anticipated all-IP environment is very dynamic and that NANP exhaust is not currently anticipated until beyond The FoN will continue to monitor exhaust forecasts in the future. If no further action is requested from the NANC, we propose that FTN 8 to be closed. Nationwide10-digit Dialing was agreed to be added as an open discussion item for future discussions. 3
