Position Adjectives can be placed in two positions: before a noun e.g. the large balloon a lime green car after the verb to be e.g. the balloon is large the essay was very good 2 3/20 KS3 Grammar Terms

1)Read through the extract below and underline all the modifiers. 2) Classify the modifiers under the following headings: descriptive adjectives, size or distance adjectives, age adjectives and colour adjectives. The gloomy day became a glorious evening as the ancient crimson sun dropped to the far horizon. As it began to sink lower and lower, the sea became redder and redder. and the tiny waves rolled to the seaweed – edged shoreline. I walked to the glowing dunes and sat and watched the flying gulls dip and glide as they searched for food left by the careless tourists, both young and old. I closed my eyes and listened to the harsh sounds of the gulls as they fought for rotting scraps. The beauty of the evening contrasted with my solemn mood.
