Texas War of Independence

American Westward Movement In order to get more land, Americans moved west into Texas territory. Stephen Austin received the ability to form a colony in east Texas. By 1830, 7,000 Americans lived in Texas territory. By 1835, 30,000 Americans lived in Texas territory.

American Westward Expansion When numbers of Texans increased the Texans demanded for more political control. They continued to fight for those rights. –They said, “I will fight for independence if Mexico denies our request”

The Alamo Sam Houston led an army of several thousand to put down a rebellion The Texans at the Alamo had been led by William Travis and James Bowie.
