2 Mexico gains it’s Independence
Mexico finally gets it’s independence from Spain in 1821.

3 Moving to Texas Mexico allows Stephen F. Austin to bring 300 American families to Texas to live.

4 Moving Fast By 1827, 6,000 Americans were moving to Texas each month.

5 Slavery in Texas Many Americans came from the South and brought slaves, but slavery in Mexico was still illegal.

6 Santa Anna Becomes President
General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna becomes president in Mexico in 1833.

7 New Laws in Texas In 1835 Texas passes new laws.
No more Americans were allowed to come to Texas.

8 2nd Law All Texans had to become Mexican citizens, or they weren’t allowed there.

9 3rd Law All Texans had to become Catholic because that was Mexico’s religion.

10 4th Law All Texans would have to pay taxes to the Mexican government.

11 Texas revolution The Texas Revolution started in October of 1835

12 Texas makes money By 1830, Texas was making more money than any other part of Mexico.

13 Texans being taxed Texans were being taxed with out representation in the Mexican government.

14 Texas wants to be a state
Texans demanded to become a state of Mexico, so they could be a part of the Mexican government and help make laws

15 Texans at Goliad The Mexican army captured 300 Texans at Goliad, Texas and killed them all.

16 The Alamo In March 1836, the Mexican army killed 188 Texans in the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas

17 Battle of San Jacinto In April 1836, Sam Houston and the Texan army surprised and defeated the Mexican army at the Battle of San Jacinto

18 Santa Anna Defeated About 630 Mexicans were killed and 730 soldiers, including General Santa Anna, was captured. The Texans only had 16 deaths.

19 Santa Anna surrendered
Mexican General Santa Anna orders the execution of 400 surrendered Texans. This also becomes a rallying cry for Texas independence. 1836

20 Texas gets independence
Texas becomes an independent country.

21 Texans won Texans captured Santa Anna and forced him to sign a treaty giving Texas its independence.
