President of Mexico during the Texas Revolution Led Mexican soldiers against Texans Most noteworthy battles were the Battle of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto Signed a treaty giving Texas independence following his capture during the Battle of San Jacinto

He was a political reformist who supported the Mexican Constitution of 1824 He became upset with President Santa Anna and moved to Texas to help reform the Mexican Government He wanted to reform Mexico but when he realized this was not possible he supported the Texas Revolution He helped to frame the Texas Constitution and was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence He was the Texas Republic’s first Vice President

He lost his hearing due to a disease as a child in Mississippi He was a Captain in the Texas Army at the Battle of San Jacinto He destroyed the bridge over the San Jacinto River to prevent Mexican troops from escaping during the battle of San Jacinto He was able to overcome his disability to become one of Houston’s most trusted officers
