English Literature Taster Lesson July

 Learning Objectives  Understand the principles of the Lit Course  Understand the principles behind the AS Literature Course and engage with complex texts  Understand the ways in which author’s use language to create effects and convey ideas  Identify and comment on inconsistencies in the ways characters are presented at different times and explore differing interpretations that arise from this  Success Criteria  Be able to give an opinion on what the study of literature involves and have read a complex literary extract  Be able to identify different aspects of a character at a basic level and use evidence to exemplify their point  Be able to identify layers of meaning when considering a character and show understanding of personality traits which are presented with more subtlety by the author

For September....  Produce a page for each text outlining the contextual factors (social, cultural, historical, literary, religious) that have influenced the writers and the ways in which they choose to portray events. This should be in essay form (not notes) and should have the title ‘Contextual Factors Influencing (name of book)’.  Buy and read the books on the previous slide.
