Unit 2 Energy & Matter Interactions

Photosynthesis Process in which plants make their own food.

Producers Organisms that make their own food.

Glucose Food produced by plants. Also called sugar.

Radiant Energy (light energy from the sun)

Light Energy It is radiant energy.

Chemical Energy Energy that is stored in glucose (sugar).

Chlorophyll Pigment that makes leaves green

Chloroplast (a small green body in a plant cell)

Stomata Pores on the leaf. -Lets carbon dioxide enter the leaf. - Lets oxygen & water vapor to leave the leaf.

Transpiration Evaporation of water vapor from the stomata of the leaves in a plant.

Oxygen Gas released by plants

Carbon dioxide Gas taken in and used by plants to make food
