1 Photosynthesis Chapter 13

2 Photosynthesis Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants make their own food using energy from the sun.

3 The Leaf The leaf is specially designed for photosynthesis.
Most leaves are flat and thin i.e. Larger surface area to adsorb light.

4 Structure of The leaf

5 Structure of The leaf Cells of the leaf have air sacs between them.
These lead to tiny pores on the underside of the leaf called stomata. Gases get pass into and out of the leaf through stomata.

6 Structure of the leaf Carbon dioxide moves into the leaf through the stomata and oxygen leaves the leaf through the stomata.

7 Structure of the Leaf Leaf cells contain chlorophyll which is present in chloroplasts in the leaf cells. Chlorophyll traps the light energy and uses it to combine carbon dioxide and water to form glucose and oxygen.

8 Photosynthesis The equation for photosynthesis is:
Light Chlorophyll Carbon dioxide + Water Glucose + Oxygen

9 Testing a Leaf for Starch
