Presentation transcript:

“Every child is an artist. The trouble is how to remain an artist once that child grows up.” - Pablo Picasso

A portrait is a painting, drawing sculpture… that represents a person…especially the face and its expression.

Portraits can be of yourself... (a.k.a. self portraits)

Or they can be of other people.

Portraits are usually of the shoulders and head…

..but sometimes can be of the whole body.

Sometimes artists include things in the background that connect to or describe the person…

Portraits can be made using different media (types of art materials.)

Art can be 3-Dimensional (you can walk around it) Plaster Clay

Or 2-Dimensional (it is flat and you can hang it on a wall)

Artists take pictures at different angles and from close up and far away to make us look at a picture in a different way…

Bird’s Eye View Worm’s Eye View “human” view

Some artists use the camera to focus on different parts of a person

You be the Artist! What is a portrait? Who makes portraits? What can you make art portraits with? What is 2D and what is 3D Are you ready to be the artist and make your own portraits? Have fun, create, explore and discover!
