Style: the way we create something Technique- how we use the materials Purpose- why we use the materals, or why we make art

3 Cubism Cubists were a group of artists who believed they were making “realistic” art by showing objects from all sides. (in the round) Multiple-viewpoints Think of it like a sculpture. You can walk all around it. These artists believed we are 3-d and so should our portraits

4 Expressionism Art expresses an idea, emotion, or story (philosophical art) Colors, values, and technique became very important Viewer looking at the art becomes very important Cubism took on an expressionistic like technique when drawing objects from multiple perspectives

5 What came before? How is this idea different from before?
Impressionists: Art was about color and light. Story was not most important

6 Well why is cubism so different?
Artists were in constant arguments over who was making it better Cubists were making fun of artists who thought that art could just be about paint. Cubists believed art had a purpose

Then drew lines and shapes to break up the faces

9 What we are going to do Use markers to draw “expressionistic like”
Complete sketches from different viewpoints. Remember if you choose to focus on the head…all of your sketches need to be of the head too!!!!!
